International Sofia Gubaidulina CONCORDIA Contemporary Music Festival

Concordia is one of four festivals carried out by the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra (together with the Rakhlins seasons (April), White lilac (May) and the Kazan autumn (August).
The Festival is to be held in the Republic of Tatarstan, on the native land of Sofia Gubaidulina, who has kindly accepted the invitation to attend the opening of the Festival. One of the most outstanding cellists of the world - David Geringas - is going to perform a piece written for him by Gubaidulina - Und: das Fest ist im vollen Gangeon the 5th of November, at the opening concert.
Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra - Alexander Sladkovsky commented on this account, 'I’m very pleased that David Geringas, the follower of the Great Rostropovich, will come to Kazan. He is friends with Gubaidulina and we are obliged the idea of establishing this Festival to him. This Festival is a tribute to Sofia Gubaidulina, on the one hand, and a way to demonstrate the importance of the strong ties between Gubaidulina and Tatarstan, on the other'.
The programme of the Festival's first day features Schoenberg’sTransfigured Night, which is going to be performed on new string instruments (that were bought by the TNSO in Cremona). In croce by Sofia Gubaidulina was premiered 30 years ago, and this time it will be performed by David Geringas and Rubin Abdullin (the latter actually took part in that historical premiere performance 30 years ago).
Yuri Bashmet is expected to come to perform Viola Concerto by Alfred Schnitke (dedicated to him) on the 19th of November. The Festival will also feature Alexander Tchaikovsky, his Symphony № 3 is to be played by the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra. The Symphony is dedicated to the well-known doctor Leonid Roshal, who is expected to attend the Festival as a special guest. Bells in the fogby Edison Denisov will be also performed.
November the 12th concert is made up of music of Hindemith (Symphony in B) and several contemporary composers of Tatarstan such as Elena Anisimova, Masguda Schamsutdinova, Shamil Timerbulatov and Anatoly Luppov.
