Yurlov Russian State Academic Choir (Yurlov Choir) is recognized as one of the most outstanding choirs of any kind in Russia. It is the country’s flagship choral ensemble.
The choir has acquired a reputation for the breadth of its programming and its dynamic and exciting performances. We aim to develop performance skills at the highest level, challenging singers to embrace a vast repertoire and to develop a flexible and creative approach to musical performance.
Yurlov Choir performs the great a capella choral treasures, covering music from the earliest classical eras to contemporary music, and also specializes in seldom-heard 16-th and 18-th century Russian compositions.
Since its inception over 90 years ago, the Yurlov’s Choir has made a significant contribution to the development of contemporary Russian choral music. Under the internationally celebrated and multy award winning choral conductor Alexander Yurlov (1927-1973), the Choir became famous for its unique approach to programming and has gained a reputation for the high artistic quality for its performances. The unique blend and flexibility of this energetic ensemble is the result of many years of intensive work with Alexander Yurlov.
It is an ensemble rich in tradition, and the Choir has managed to bring these traditions into the present.
Directed since 2004 by Gennady Dmitryak, the Honored Art Worker and the pupil of Alexander Yurlov, the Choir has become widely known for its stunning interpretations of choral music. He brings new sensibilities and insights to repertoire and compels new levels of artistic accomplishment.
The Choir has a strong commitment to touring in Russia and countries to develop its touring network in order to present high quality choral concerts to audiences all around the country. Internationally, the Choir has toured extensively in Europe.
The Choir has and continues to foster relationship with other distinguished Russian performing ensembles. In recent years we have collaborated with Robert Hall, Yury Bashmet, Pavel Kogan, T.Kurentzis, S,Skripka, F.Shtrobel (Germany), R.Franz (Germany), A.Mustonen (Estonia), R.Kapasso (Italy), A.Vakulsky (the Netherlands), V.P. Perez (Spain).
