Founded in 1947, three years after the opening of the N. G. Zhiganov Conservatory.
For 50 years the Choir was led by its founder - the outstanding coral conductor, Professor Semyon Abramovich Kazachkov. It is under that the Choir became one of the leading coral ensembles in the Republic of Tatarstan.
From 1997 the title of its Artistic Director and Principal Conductor was taken up by the Head of the coral conducting department, Honoured Man of Art - Prof. V. Lukyanov.
The Choir enjoys an active concert life, touring Mosocw, Saint Petersburg, Saratov, Yekaternburg, Saransk, Naberezhnye Chelny, Nizhnekamsk, etc.
The Choir has taken part in various international festivals in Germany, Italy, Estonia.
It was enrolled in large projects, appearing with outstanding conductors such as Y. Nikolaevsky, L. Kremer, V. Chernushenko, V. Gerviev.
The Choir is characteristic of professionalism, accurateness in form shaping, and attention to details.
Its repertoire is exceedingly wide, including music of all styles and genres, such as Passion of John by Bach, oratories and cantatas by Bach, John of Damascus by Taneyev, Requiem and liturgies by Mozart, scenes from Russian and other operas, Prometheus by Scriabin, Alliluya by Gubaidulina, Requiem by Durufle, coral cycles by R. Shchedrin, E. Denisov, music by Shnittke. The Choir also performs music bu such Tatar composers, as N. Zhiganov, A. Klyucharev, M. Muzafarov, S. Saydashev, S. Sharifullina.
