Luciano Acocella is Music Director of the Opéra de Rouen Haute Normandie.
After completing his studies at the Santa Cecilia conservatory of Rome and the Royal Academy of Music of Copenhagen, he did several courses and master classes at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia and the Kondrashin Masterclass a Hilversum.
Prizewinner of the Prokofiev and Mitropoulos competitions in 1996, he started collaborating with Daniele Gatti in several opera productions and symphonic concerts, and began conducting in Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Denmark, United States, Japan, China, Korea and Russia.
In 2000 he did his opera debut in Copenhagen with Britten's Rape of Lucretia. This was followed by successful productions like Madame Butterfly for the circuito As.Li.Co and Adriana Lecouvreur for the Circuito Lirico Lombardo. He conductedManon Lescault at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2002 and The Barber of Seville in Tokio. In 2004, he conducted Rigoletto in a Korean tour with the same theatre. Still in Seoul, he directed Tosca, in the historical version of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Next began his collaboration with the Opéra d'Avignon, first with a symphony and lyric concert and then with La Bohème and Il Viaggio a Reims in 2008. He conductedLucia di Lammermoor and Manon Lescaut at the Opéra de Marseille, La Traviata and I Capuleti e i Montecchi in Moscow, The Barber of Seville at the Opéra de Rouen andMary Stuart at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liege. He returned to Italy with The Barber of Seville, Cilea's Arlesiana and Mascagni's Nerone. In 2009, he debuted in La Fenice with La Traviata and at the Filarmonico di Verona with L’ Elisir d’amore. In 2010, he went back to Liege with I Capuleti e i Montecchi and did his debut in La Coruna with La Fille du Regiment. Guest of the Festival de Musique Sacrée de Marseille in 2011, he did Die Deutsches Requiem with l'orchestre Philarmonique de Marseille , as well as several symphonic concerts. In June that year, Les chorégies d'Orange invited him to conduct the Orchestre National de Montpellier in a concert that was coproduced and broadcasted by France 3 and Radio France. 2011 was also the year of Mr Acocella's debut in Paris with l' Orchestre National de France and with l’ Orchestre National d’ Ile de France. In January 2012, he conductedLa Donna del Lago in Moscow.
Luciano Acocella has been in several occasions a guest of the Festival della Valle d’Itria di Martina Franca, where he conducted important productions such as I Capuleti e i Montecchi in the first modern times edition of the 1830 La Scala version. His interest for the symphonic repertoire led him to conduct the San Petersburg Philarmonic orchestra, The Tokio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow Philarmonic Orchestra, l’Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Miami Festival Orchestra and the Toscanini Orchestra. He was also invited to conduct The Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, l’Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestre Lyrique de Region Avignon – Provence, the C. Felice di Genova and la Fenice di Venezia orchestras, l’Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, and l’Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano among others.
In 2007, he was asked by the Centre Français de Promotion Lyrique de Paris to be the Music Director of a coproduction of Il viaggio a Reims, that was performed in the Opera theatres of Avignon, Reims, Tours, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nancy, Nice, Metz, Marseille, Montpellier, Saint Etienne,Vichy and Toulon,and ended in 2010.
He conducted La Traviata in Liège, Rouen and Avignon (2012), and will conductCarmen in Rouen (2013), I Capuleti e i Montecchi in Reims (2013), La Bohème andLa Traviata in Bolshoi (2013-14), La Traviatain Marseille (2014) and La Damnation de Faust in Rouen, as well as symphonic concerts in Paris, Marseille, Rouen, Avignon, Montpellier, Moscow and Kazan. He will did the 2012 version of Chorégies d'Orange's Fête de la Musique broadcasted concert with Montecarlo Symphonic Orchestra.
Among the most notable of his recordings are I Capuleti e i Montecchi in the 1830 - 1831 version of La Scala and a Puccini album with Melanie Diener and the Prague Philarmonic orchestra.
