Widely known and respected conductor, organiser and a long-time member of the famous Vienna Philharmonic. His charismatic personality has been valued by the listeners of many European music venues, in which he has made appearances with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Concert-Verein Orchestra, Vienna Art Orchestra, Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Silesian Chamber Orchestra, Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum, Philharmonic Orchestras in Poznań, Cracow and Łódź, Polish Baltic Philharmonic and National Forum of Music Symphony Orchestra. As an active performer of early music he has worked with the renowned ensemble Concerto Köln and Marc Minkowski’s Les Musiciens du Louvre-Grenoble. The artist conducted several open-air performances (including the concert with Romani violinist Roby Lakatos), as well as chamber operas and concert galas with the soloists of the Vienna State Opera, staged in Hofburg Palace in Vienna. Open for projects involving jazz, folk, world and film music, he has participated in various cross-over productions and cooperated with gypsy jazz group “No Limit” from Vienna, Chinese erhu player Zen Hu and Tytus Wojnowicz. Having created multimedia performances conveying the unconventional presentation of 20th- and 21st-century music, he invited Krzysztof Penderecki, Wojciech Pszoniak, Edward Lutczyn, Polish Dance Theatre from Poznań and Daniel Stryjecki to participate in his projects.
Jurek Dybał has dedicated himself to promoting and popularizing Polish music. He conducted the Polish premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Adagio for Strings and participated in the world premiere of the composer’s quintet Leaves from an Unwritten Diary and Duo concertante (Polish and French premiere). He initiated the Viennese premiere of Franciszek Lessel’s Ouverture (performed by the Vienna Chamber Orchestra) and introduced the music of Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki to Concerto Köln ensemble. The artist premiered the compositions of Krzesimir Dębski. Together with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra he founded a special award for a prize-winner of the 14th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition by inviting Soyoung Yoon to perform in Konzerthaus in Vienna. He has worked with several outstanding artists, including Yuri Bashmet, Julian Rachlin, Angela Hewitt, Itamar Golan, Mihaela Ursuleasa, Michel Lethiec, Frans Helmerson, Arto Noras, Erwin Schrott, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Piotr Paleczny, Xavier de Maistre, Gábor Boldoczki and many others. As a chamber musician he has performed with Vienna Piano Quintet, Prima Vista Quartet, Silesian String Quartet, Wiener Virtuosen, Fine Arts Quartet, Shanghai Quartet, Talich Quartet and Münchner Septet. He recorded for Polish (DUX), Belgian (R.C.P.) and Japanese (Camerata) record labels and was a recipient of two Fryderyk Awards granted by the Polish Phonographic Academy. In the years 2010-2012 he was a professor at Dresden University of Music. During the Mahler’s Year Celebrations the artist was asked to plant the “Mahler rose” in the garden of a newly renovated Mahler’s birth house, among such personalities as Vaclav Havel and Thomas Hampson.
Jurek Dybał is a founder and a director of the Krzysztof Penderecki International Music Festival “Level 320” organised in the historical hall of “Guido” mine in Zabrze.
