During the 2011/12 season Xavier SABATA performed in a total of 7 European countries, on 11 different stages of operas, in festivals and concert halls, and with 9 different top orchestras, including the renowned orchestra Les Arts Florissants. His appearances took him among others to Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Theater Freiburg, Konzerthaus Wien, Teatro Villamarta Valladolid, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Barcelona Internacional Teatre, Théâtre de Caen, Grand Théâtre Luxembourg, and Haendelfestival Halle.
Born in Barcelona in 1976, Xavier Sabata graduated in dramatic arts from the Institute for Theatre in his home town. He also has a Conservatory diploma for saxophone. Subsequently, he continued his studies in traditional song and Lied at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya and the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, where he learned from the prestigious Lieder duo Harmut Höll and Mitsuko Shirai. The talented artist also attended master classes by Montserrat Figueras, Richard Leavit und Christoph Pregardien.
His engagement in Monteverdi’s L’inconorazione di Poppea in Lyon brought him once again together with William Christie and his world famous ensemble Les Arts Florrissants. This marked the beginning of Sabata’s permanent collaboration with this amazing conductor. As a result, he was invited to appear as Madre in the spectacular production Il St. Alessio as well as Iarba in Cavalli’s La Didone.
Xavier Sabata regularly collaborates with ensembles such as Europa Galante, Les Arts Florissants, Collegium_1704, Venice Barroque Orchestra, I Barocchisti, Al Ayre Españiol, El Concierto Español, Orquesta Barroca Sevilla, as well as conductors such as Fabio Biondi, Rene Jacobs, Jordi Savall, Alan Curtis, Gabriel Garrido, Fabio Bonizzoni, Jean-Pierre Canhiac, Diego Fasolis, Emilio Moreno, Andrea Marcon, Xavier Dìaz Latorre, Aaron Zapico, Ivor Bolton, Harry Bicket, Christophe Moulds and William Christie.
Xavier Sabata is also a recurrent guest on the stages of the Bozar in Brussels, Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, New York, London, Teatro Real Madrid, Liceu Barcelona, La Fenice Venedig, Opera Rara Krakau, Opéra de Lausanne, Grand Théâtre de Genève, and Theater an der Wien. Moreover, he was invited to the Festival für Alte Musik Innsbruck under the direction of René Jacobs, at the Palau de la Música Catalan in Barcelona as well as the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (Dido and Aeneas, Madrigaux), Ambronay Festival, Haendelfestival Halle, Moscow Tchaikovsky Hall and Festival Via Stellae in Santiago de Compostela.
Recently Xavier Sabata has been invited to 3 exclusive, new CD recordings for the labels Virgin Classics/EMI (part of Anassandro in Vivaldi’s Oracolo in Messina), Decca (Tassile in Haendel’s Alessandro) and Sony (solo CD with the ensemble Atalanta Fugiens). Xavier Sabata has already participated in several CD recordings for labels, such as EMI/Virgin Classics (i.e. Gernando in Haendels Faramondo), Winter&Winter, and Harmonia Mundi Iberica. Moreover, by now he has taken part in a variety of different musical and theatre productions with renowned Spanish companies, such as Teatre Lliure Barcelona or Teatre Nacional Catalonia, and has had several appearances in TV series.
His upcoming parts and productions include among others the Royal Opera di Oviedo (Ottone/ Agrippina), Haendel Festspiele in Halle, Enescu Festival Bukarest, Megaron Athens, Theater an der Wien and Opéra Royal de Versailles (Tassile/ ALESSANDRO), new production Das große Welttheater with Theater Freiburg, and a guest tour in Spain, Iarba/La Didone at the theatres Caen, Luxemburg and Paris, his participation in gala concerts of the countertenors in Karlsruhe, Versailles and a CD recording for Decca as well as his debut as Rinaldo.
