Born in Armenia in 1983, Hovhannes Ayvazyan discovered his love for singing at an early age and pursued his vocal studies at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan under the tutelage of tenor Sergey Danelian. He went on to become a principal soloist of the Yerevan Opera State Theatre debuting as Luigi in Puccini's Il tabarro in 2005. He continued to perform a number of leading tenor roles such as Canio in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto, Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata, Lensky in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Radames in Verdi's Aida and Don Jose in Bizet's Carmen.
During his time at the Yerevan Opera Theatre, he won the prestigious President's Prize of the Republic of Armenia, first prize in the G. Gasparyan Competition and the grand prize in the international Russian festival "Vivat Pobeda" held in Moscow.
Since 2010, Mr. Ayvazyan has frequently performed with Opera Belcanto of South Simcoe in Toronto (Canada). These performances have included his debuts as Turiddu in Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Cavaradossi in Puccini's Tosca. In 2012 he was invited to Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Opera & Ballet tu sing Cavaradossi in Tosca.
