Following her victory at the International Giuseppe di Stefano Competition in Trapani in 1998, Daniela Schillaci received offers from numerous opera houses. The same year she made her debut at the theatre in Savona in the opera Così fan tutte and at the theatre in Spoleto in the opera Werther. Has performed at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice and the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania (as Oscar in the opera Un ballo in maschera), the Opera di Roma, the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, the Teatro Verdi di Trieste, theatres in Dusseldorf and Essen and at the Puccini Opera Festival in Torre del Lago (as Musetta in La Bohème). The singer’s repertoire also includes the roles of Nannetta in Falstaff, Lisa in La sonnambula (theatres in Palermo, Messina and Rome), Aida in the eponymous opera (the theatre in Taormina), Violetta in La traviata(during the Luglio Musicale Trapanesefestival), Elisetta in Il matrimonio segreto, Serpina in La serva padronaand Papagena in Die Zauberflöte.
Daniela Schillaci has performed lead roles in Nino Rota’s musical Il cappello di paglia di Firenze at theatres in Messina and Florence and Puccini’s Turandotin Seoul. In Messina she appeared in a new production of Verdi’s I Lombardi(conducted by Roberto Abbado), while in Catania she performed in Menotti’s opera Il telefono. Has appeared at the opera di Roma in the opera Elektra (conducted by Seiji Osawa) and Carmen (conducted by Alain Lombard).
In October 2010 she took part in a gala concert at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre (conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo). The same year she performed the role of Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at the Yekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Has worked with such conductors as Zubin Mehta, Seiji Osawa, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Daniel Oren, Günter Neuhold, Roberto Abbado, Bruno Campanella, Semyon Bychkov and Alain Lombard. Has worked with stage directors including Pierre Luigi Pizzi, Jonathan Miller, Robert Carsen, Filippo Crivelli and Pier'Alli.
